King George created a monster with the Stamp Act of 1765. Resulting protests were well documented and even demonstrated by the news community. While some newspapers preferred quiet rebellion by simply printing on unstamped (untaxed) paper, The Pennsylvania Journal and Weekly Advertiser loudly fell on its sword by changing its masthead to include this skull and crossbones, declaring that the paper was "expiring: in hopes of a resurrection to life again."
