The Lincoln Memorial stands in homage to the beloved 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Overlooking the Reflecting Pool, the beautiful white marble memorial was completed in 1922 by designer Henry Bacon. Thirty-six Doric columns, representing the number of states in the Union at the time of Lincoln’s death, surround the outside. This memorial endures as a symbol of America’s ideals of union, freedom and democracy.
